If you like traveling, then the Travelocity Rewards American Express Card may be what you need to save money on travel. Being that Travelocity and American Express are very well-known names, individuals automatically associate it with value. This fact is determined through a thorough evaluation of the point earnings, bonus points, and fees that are required in order to have the account.

To qualify for the card, applicants have to be at least 18 years of age, residents of the United States, and those who already have accounts may not be eligible for this card. Income must also be sufficient and credit requirements must be met. If those points are met, then an individual can move forward with the application process, which is simple and fast.

In the application, you simply fill out your basic personal information, employment and financial information, contact information, and your security information. You can also go ahead and opt into or out of paperless statements and other optional services, such as adding an additional card user and specifying which cards you would like to transfer balances from. After you have specified what you need and you accept the terms and conditions, you receive a decision within 30 seconds. After this decision is made, it can take up to two weeks to receive the card.

Once you receive the card, you earn points for travel, you get bonus points when you use the card the first time, and there is no annual fee to take advantage of these benefits. You can also receive additional bonus points if you spend a certain amount of money on qualifying transactions within the first three months of opening the account. From there, your points translate into statement credits. To earn your points, you earn a point for every dollar spent on purchases that are not returned, rescinded, or disputed. If you use the card toward Travelocity purchases, such as flights, Good Buy and Top Secret Hotels, and hotel and flight packages on Travelocity.com that are not returned or disputed in any way, you receive three points for every dollar spent. You can then exchange these points for statement credits that will save you money.

In addition to there not being an annual fee, the APR is based on creditworthiness and the market, which is based on the Prime Rate. There is an APR for purchases that can vary, an APR for balance transfers that can vary, and there is an APR for cash advances that is consistent across the board based on the Prime Rate. If a payment is made late, there is a penalty APR that can go significantly higher than the usual rate. It is possible for this APR to be applied indefinitely. Nonetheless, the terms and conditions do specify that you can avoid interest on your purchases if you pay your balance off during the 23 day period after the closing of the billing cycle. As long as the balance is paid off by the due date each month, interest can be avoided on purchases. However, interest on cash advances and balance transfers still apply. These APRs cannot be paid off even when you pay off the transaction amounts when you pay your bill in full.

The transaction fees include a balance transfer fee that is a percentage of the transaction or a minimum dollar amount, whichever is greater. The cash advance fee follows the same structure as the balance transfer fee. As for foreign transactions, the fee is a percentage of each transactions and it is charged in U.S. dollars. If you make a late payment, there is a late fee charged in addition to the penalty APR and there is a returned payment fee. Both the late fee and the returned payment fee can vary by state. There is no over-the-credit-limit fee because the card does not allow transactions beyond the dollar amount available. If you are curious as to how much you have available, you can call the customer service hotline or you can check your account via the online account management option.
