Columbus Bank & Trust Company
- Columbus Bank & Trust Company:
The Columbus Bank & Trust Company has its roots in September 1888 when a group of stockholders met to establish the Third National Bank. On November 1888, the bank was granted a license by the Comptroller of the Currency of the United States to begin operations as a bank. Due to stringent banking rules requiring separate companies for commercial and savings banking services, the same group of stockholders who founded the Third National Bank came together to form The Columbus Savings Bank which received its charter in December 1888. Columbus Bank & Trust Company is regarded as one of the pioneers in the credit card business when it began offering the CB&T charge account at a time when BankAmericard (now Visa) and MasterCharge (now MasterCard) had not obtained national dominance. The bank is known for a number of its products including Purchase Perks, Cardview, and Business Online Access.
